There could be a genuine market for the sellers if there was more attention paid to the re-sales market and how the importance of a respectable market would also strengthen the image of vacation ownership. We are sure that there are a lot of people who are interested in vacation ownership but when they look at the re-sales market, they are just put off and this should not be the case because if you buy a vacation ownership from a branded 5 star hotel chain or development you have bought quality with a definite worth.
- The international branded hotels involved in vacation ownership should have an interest in encouraging a stable re-sales market, weather it is in-house or in the re-sales market place. The perception of vacation ownership will be greatly strengthened in turn building a trust between product and consumer.
- A serious re-sales company should advertise in the internet but should also have an office on planet earth, no different than the real estate industry as a whole. Maybe there can be a small advertising fee but estate agents make their money from the buyer and not the seller!
- Trust must be established and the market given a stronger credibility.
- The international branded vacation ownership resorts should set up a structure where they can recommend high quality re-sales companies. There is nothing wrong with this. The luxury car industry does this and has dealerships that sell new and old cars and this keeps up the standards and image of the industry as a whole. This in turn will get rid of advertising fee based companies on the internet, because at the moment they know they can keep this policy while there is no respectable alternative in the re-sales market.
Vacation Ownership is a respectable product that in the long term must be protected and the vacation ownership industry is growing. The interest in a re-sales market will grow and there must be a new approach towards sales that will protect the industry as a whole.
