Buying Vacation Ownership

ABOUT VACATION OWNERSHIP

Before buying into Vacation Ownership

The advantage of Vacation Ownership is the guarantee of a high standard of quality year after year provided when you buy into a quality program.

What is important is the value for your money and what you will be getting for it and how much a Vacation ownership will be saving you financially and the benefits for your well being and quality time with your family.

Sit down and calculate how much you would normally spend on the accommodation for holidays each year and you will find out whether a purchase will make sense or not. You will see that when you stay in a 5 star resort that the room per night will cost between 400-600 dollars, so it is a good basis to start with to look at the market and how much the accommodation costs are on a conventional holiday. Also, you must consider there will be an annual maintenance fee and possibly a membership fee for your ownership. This doesn’t mean that it is a bad idea but you must be 100% happy and know all costs involved.

The one important thing that I have learned is that you must understand the flexibilities and constraints your program offers (i.e. booking periods, transfer of points to the future or to hotel and exchange programs). You will be surprised how much extended value you can get with your points purchased.

The fun side is you can start to ponder about your holiday during any time of the year. If you don`t want to use your holiday in a particular year then you have to make sure that your points are transferred into the following year. Some programs also offer the borrowing of points from future years.

Most programmes offer customer care by means of official web sites and customer service telephone centres that guide you through your ownership and how to use the points to maximum effect. The end effect is that you learn about the variety on offer through your ownership and what you can do with it.

Your needs

Before deciding you must look at your own family unit. Accommodation will come first. Do you need a one or two bedroom apartment, are the children still small or are they soon teenagers ? Maybe you will also want to have friends come on the holiday. If you are a young family you need to look at the vacation clubs facilities for families with children and weather a resort near a beach is preferable. But you could also be a family who loves hiking and skiing each family is so different, so you have to consider what you want the ownership to give to you.
If you are a couple who`s children are grown up then you should consider how many years you need the ownership for, even though you can pass the ownership on to children, this may not suit you.

How can you tell if the resort is right for you?

We all have our own opinions of style and taste and reasons why we like something or simply don`t go for something. The general rule of going with your gut feeling also applies here. Research also can determine a decision and there is nothing wrong with doing a bit of this.
